DAVIDSON, N.C. – Moriah Bellissimo tallied 15 kills and eight digs to lead Georgia Southern to a 3-0 (27-25, 25-13, 25-18) Southern Conference volleyball victory over Davidson Monday night in Belk Arena.
Meredith Paskert collected 13 kills, seven digs and four service aces for the Eagles (14-6, 5-1 SoCon), and Kate Van Dyke posted 39 assists, six kills, five digs and three aces. Georgia Southern had 10 service aces as a team.
"Our seniors did a great job of stepping up their games after a slow start and provided leadership down the stretch," said Georgia Southern coach Chad Callihan. "It was a good road win, and those are tough to come by."
Caroline Brown led the Wildcats (7-9, 3-2 SoCon) with 14 kills and 12 digs, and Tindall Sewell had eight kills and four blocks.
The Wildcats overcame a five-point deficit in the first set, but with the score tied 25-25, Nicole Jeschelnik got a kill for the Eagles, and Van Dyke finished it off with a kill as GSU took a 1-0 lead in the match.
After Bellissimo gave the Eagles a 3-2, second-set lead with a kill, Paskert sparked a three-point Eagle run with an ace. Brown got a kill before Alexandra Beecher served three points as the Eagles opened a 9-3 advantage. Georgia Southern pushed the margin to 20-12 on a Kayla Henderson kill, and Bellissimo served four straight points. Sewell got a block for the Wildcats, but Bellissimo put the set away with a kill.
Davidson scored the first point of the third set, but Crysten Curry got a sideout with a kill and Paskert served for eight straight points, including two aces, to give the Eagles a seven-point cushion. The Wildcats trimmed the margin to 8-6, but Bellissimo got three consecutive kills to push the margin back to five. The Wildcats never trailed by less than three points for the rest of the way.
