STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Men’s Soccer enters the second season on Saturday night with a trip to Davison in the 2012 Southern Conference opener for the Eagles. The Eagles are 2-8-0 overall entering league play while Davidson holds a 4-5-1 overall record and a 0-2 SoCon record. Saturday’s contest starts at 7 p.m.

Last year, Georgia Southern survived a thunderstorm which forced abandonment of the Sunday matinee and downed the Wildcats 3-2 at Eagle Field. Hunter Norton scored just 1:08 into the contest while Luigi Clendening added a penalty kick in the 15th minute to take a 2-0 lead. Davidson scored in the 31st and 75th minutes, but Witt Carlisle’s goal in the 35th minute would prove to be the game-winner for the Eagles in the 2011 SoCon Opener.

In 2012, the Eagles are led by freshman Reed Norton and senior Joe Hughes with three goals each. Drew Ruggles has scored twice including a free kick against Wake Forest two weeks ago.

Non-conference play has been tough for the Eagles, dropping three contests to nationally ranked teams. Georgia Southern has been away from home since September 10th, but return to the friendly confines on October 12th against Elon in the team’s first-ever night game at Eagle Field.

Davidson opened league play on September 25th, falling 4-0 to UNCG and again on September 28th against Elon, 2-0. This is the fourth-straight home game for the Wildcats who fell to Wake Forest, 2-0, earlier this week.

Valeriy Sviderskiy leads Davidson with four goals while Brian McGue and Andrew Dilallc each have three goals and an assist this season for the Wildcats.

The Eagles close their seven-game road swing on Tuesday, October 9th, with a trip to Appalachian State.
