Georgia Southern Championships Start on Friday

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Championships, hosted by the Georgia Southern Men’s Tennis team begin on Friday afternoon at the Hanner Tennis Complex. The field for the tournament includes Georgia Southern, Arkansas, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Mercer, Savannah College of Art and Design and USC Aiken.
Friday’s schedule features two rounds of singles play, followed by doubles play in the afternoon. Singles play starts at 9 a.m. with the second round of the day starting between Noon and 1:30 p.m. The first round of doubles play starts at 3:30 p.m. For a complete schedule, please consult the draw sheets which will be updated on GSEagles.com after each day’s play.
Georgia Southern’s Matthijs Verdam is the No. 4 seed in the Blue Draw and opens play against jack Anton from SCAD. Oliver Webb is on the same side of the blue draw as Verdam and the top-seed, Victor Valente from Georgia State. The bottom half of the draw features three Eagles with Rayane Djouad, Andrew Dromsky and Alex Doherty representing Southern.
In the White Draw, Daniel Rush opens against the No. 4 seed Lucas Santana from Georgia State. Albert Codiana Sala is in the top half of the draw while Carson Jones and Marco Osorio headline the bottom half of the white draw.
The Gold Draw is a round-robin bracket which features Rafael Racy and Patrick Doherty.
The Eagles have six teams entered in doubles play. Verdam and Djouad are joined in the top-half of the doubles draw by the pairs of Racy-Osorio and Hoffman-Jones. In the bottom half of the draw, Southern is represented by the teams of Rush and Alex Doherty as well as Patrick Doherty and Codina Sala. Also in the bottom half of the draw is the pair of Webb and Dromsky.
On October 18-21 the Eagles travel to the Tallahassee ITA Regional and play in the Citadel Invitational a week later in Charleston to close the 2012 fall season.
