Beecher Named SoCon Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern defensive specialist Alexandra Beecher has been named the Southern Conference volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced today.
Beecher earns the honor for the second time this season. The freshman averaged 6.29 digs per set in a 2-0 week for the Eagles. She posted 23 digs and added six assists in GSU's 3-1 win at College of Charleston, which vaulted the Eagles into first place in the South Division.
Beecher followed that with 21 digs, three assists and a service ace in a 3-0 win at The Citadel. She ranks seventh in the SoCon and first among freshman in digs with 459 this season.
It's the fifth SoCon weekly award for the Eagles this season. Beecher has also been named Freshman of the Week, Meredith Paskert was named Player of the Week, and Kate Van Dyke was named Student-Athlete of the Week.
Georgia Southern plays its final four regular-season matches of the season in the friendly confines of Hanner Fieldhouse, beginning with a 7 p.m. contest against Western Carolina Saturday, Nov. 3.
