STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern swimming and diving team will be back in action Saturday as they host the Savannah College of Art & Design and Davis & Elkins in the Recreation Activity Center.
The meet is set to start at noon. In addition to the women's competition, the men's programs from SCAD and Davis & Elkins will also square off (see list of events below).
The Eagles opened the season last Saturday by topping Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association opponent College of Charleston 179-118 at home. GSU won 12 of 16 events, and Elaina Lanson, Kylee Parsons, Amber Juncker (right), Christina Moran and Sara Meisenhelder all won two events to lead the Eagles.
Lanson took first in the 50 free (23.74) and 100 free (51.78), swam the freestyle leg on the first-place 200 medley relay squad (23.50 split) and anchored the 400 free relay team (50.97 split), out-touching the Cougars by .40 of a second.
Parsons won the 200 free (1:56.07) and 500 free (5:07.31) and swam the first leg of the 400 free relay. Juncker won the 1000 free (10:44.87) and 400 IM (4:38.98), while Moran led off the first-place 200 medley relay and swam on the second leg of the 400 free relay. Meisenhelder won both the 3-meter (251.32) and 1-meter (237.07) diving events.
"We were very solid collectively last weekend against College of Charleston," said head coach Nate Kellogg. "However, now that the first meet excitement has worn off, we have to be that much more focused and cannot get caught off-guard. Saturday will be tough, and we are expecting some close races. We are looking to correct the mistakes that were made last weekend and most importantly, compete as a team."
After Saturday, the Eagles have a few weeks off before they compete in the Wingate Fall Frenzy in Charlotte, N.C., Nov. 16-18.
