Men’s Soccer Hosts Furman in 2012 Home Finale

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Men’s Soccer returns home on Tuesday evening for the 2012 home finale against Furman. The Eagles face the Paladins at 7 p.m. under the lights at Eagle Field.
Georgia Southern has won two-straight games, moving the Eagles into a tie for fourth place in the SoCon. Southern downed UNCG on Tuesday evening 4-1 and added a 1-0 road victory over Wofford on Saturday evening. Hunter Norton scored twice in the win over UNCG while Joe Hughes added his fourth goal of the season against Wofford.
The Eagles will try to snap a five-game skid against the Paladins, dating back to the 2006 season. Last year, GSU fell 3-1 to the Paladins in Greenville’s Stone Stadium. This year, GSU is 4-10-1 on the year with a 2-2-1 in SoCon games.
Furman enters Tuesday’s match at 10-3-3 on the year with a 2-2-1 record in the SoCon. The Paladins are tied with the Eagles for fourth in the SoCon standings with two rounds remaining. Martin Ontiveros has eight goals and six assists to lead Furman’s offense. The Paladins have scored 32 goals this year while conceding 15.
