Eagles Host First Men’s Soccer Night Game Against No. 20 Elon

STATESBORO, Ga. Georgia Southern Men’s Soccer hosts Elon on a momentous SoCon Friday Night at Eagle Field. Not only will the Eagles host their first night game at Eagle Field at 7 p.m., GSU will also honor its three seniors before kickoff.

The Eagles earned their first league point of the 2012 season on Tuesday night with a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Appalachian State. That result snapped a three-game losing streak to the Mountaineers and ended an eight-game skid this season.

GSU is paced offensively by freshman Reed Norton and Joe Hughes with three goals each. Drew Ruggles has two goals and three assists for the Eagles while Witt Carlisle and David Vargas Masis have scored twice this year.

Prior to Friday’s contest, Georgia Southern will honor seniors Joe Hughes, Muhamed Sidibeh and Aleksandar Tomic.

Elon is 8-3-1 on the season and ranked No. 20 in the most recent NSCAA rankings. The Phoenix dropped their first league game of the season on Tuesday, falling to Wofford, 4-3. Elon’s top scorer, Chris Thomas has 16 goals this year scoring in 11 of the 12 games this season for the Phoenix.

Southern is back at home on Tuesday night against UNCG. Kickoff for the league contest is set for 7 p.m.
