Eagles Best Gardner-Webb and Darton

STATESBORO, GA. - Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving took a pair of wins over Darton College (195-65) and CCSA opponent Gardner-Webb (150-110) at the Recreation Activity Center (RAC). Georgia Southern won 10 of the 14 events and claimed top-three sweeps in the 1000 Free and 100 Free. The pair of victories improve to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in conference meets.
"We are very pleased with our performances today," said Head Coach Nate Kellogg. "Our team raced very well considering the tough training we have been doing the past week. We could have been better in a few areas, but overall we performed well."
Distance specialist Amber Juncker (Bogart, Ga.) earned a pair of victories in both the 1000 Free (10:44.39) and 500 Free (5:08.85) events. She recorded her third win of the day with the top-spot in the 150 Fly (1:39.49). The Eagles took a sweep in the 1000 Free with second place going to Lindsay Mullican (Lancaster, Pa.) in a season-best 10:57.36 and Pirie Humphries (Athens, Ga.) at 11:05.09. Mullican also finished third in the 150 Fly at 1:35.83. In the 500 Free, Rikki Babuka (Richmond, Ky.) took second place honors in a time of 5:16.69.
Georgia Southern's other sweep came in the 100 Free as Elaina Lanson (Wadsworth, Ohio) took the win in 53.90. Lanson also won the 50 Free in a team season best 24.03. Devan White (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Kristen Bates (Peachtree City, Ga.) took second and third in the 100 Free with marks of 53.39 and 55.82, respectively. White also earned a victory in the 150 free, finishing in 1:25.00, while Bates took second in the 50 Breaststroke at 31.07. Katie Crider (Bloomington, Ind.) earned second place in the 50 Free with a time of 25.51.
Megan Ostrom (St. Louis Park, Minn.) recorded a pair of podium finishes with a victory the 50 Breaststroke (30.93) and a second place finish in the 150 Breaststroke (1:46.90). Courtney Harrison (Greenville, S.C.) took the win in the 150 Breaststroke (1:46.55) and finished fourth in the 100 Individual Medley at 1:02.95.
Sarah Schwartz (Greenwood, S.C.) finished second in the 150 Back (1:35.72) while Megan Heller (Lawrenceville, Ga.) finished second in the 50 Butterfly in 27.23. JoAnn Filipov (Watkinsville, Ga.) earned third place in the 50 Back with a mark of 28.75.
Georgia Southern swept both relay event victories with a time of 4:01.85 in the 400 Medley Relay with Filpov, Bates, Schwartz and Lanson finishing two seconds off a season best time. The team of Crider, White, Bates and Lanson took the victory in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:38.03.
Georgia Southern travels to North Florida for a league meet against the Ospreys. The dual meet in Jacksonville starts at 1 p.m.
