Lady Eagles Conclude Winningest Month at Wofford

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Lady Eagles conclude their winningest month of the season at Woffford on Monday. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. due to a Terrier doubleheader at Johnson Arena.
Georgia Southern (7-13, 3-8) opened January with a 56-48 victory over Wofford and won a pair of games against the College of Charleston and Western Carolina to reach three wins, their most in a month this year. The Lady Eagles are shooting 73.6% from the free throw line in January, up from 8.1% in December, and are holding their opponents to 50.5 points per game. The bump in defense has helped GSU maintain one of the top-scoring defenses in the Southern Conference.
MiMi DuBose (Jefferson, Ga.) leads the team with 10.0 points per game in SoCon play and has led the team in scoring in four of the last five contests. Meredyth Frye (Fredricksburg, Va.), who started in her 50th-straight game on Saturday, leads the team on the season with 9.7 points and 5.0 rebounds a contest.
Wofford (9-11, 2-9) defeated Davidson at home after their trip to Statesboro but has since lost six-straight games. The Terriers opened the season with a six-game win streak and are led by Morgan Wrightson's 12.5 points per game. April Moorhouse leads a group of three Terriers, who are averaging nine points a contest.
Wofford is coming off of a 69-60 loss to Western Carolina in which three Terriers scored in double figures. Logan Morris narrowly missed a career high with 16 points and Wrightson added 15 points. Wofford shot 46.7% from the floor in the loss, but a 32-24 first half hindered their chances.
Georgia Southern leads the all-time series with Wofford 28-4 after a 56-48 victory at home earlier this month. The victory capped a three-game win streak for GSU, their longest of the season. The two teams split last season's two meetings, but prior to that the Lady Eagles had won 17-straight games between the two squads dating back to a March 1, 2002 loss to the Terriers in the SoCon Tournament.
Tashayla Steede (Marietta, Ga.) notched a career high 11 points in the earlier win over Wofford. The Lady Eagles led by as many as 12 points in the second half but were ahead by just two points with two minutes remaining. GSU closed out the contest with an 8-2 run. Georgia Southern scored 26 points in the paint and tallied 17 points off of turnovers.
