Lady Eagles Go for 200th All-Time SoCon Win

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Lady Eagles take on the College of Charleston in search of their 200th all-time Southern Conference victory Saturday. Tip-off from Hanner Fieldhouse is set for 3 p.m.
A year after Georgia Southern won its 600th program victory over Western Carolina in a 69-64 over time win at home, the Lady Eagles go for win number 200 in SoCon play. GSU holds a 199-138 all-time record in Southern Conference contests.
Coming off two-straight one point victories, Georgia Southern (7-12, 3-7) squares off with the College of Charleston (5-15, 4-7) for the second time in three games. The Lady Eagles squeaked out a 35-34 win in Charleston on January 18th. Jordi Cook (Tunnel Hill, Ga.) sparked a second-half comeback with a season-high eight points and helped GSU overcome 29 turnovers. The Cougars were held to 22.4 percent shooting and missed two shots in the final 30 seconds at TD Arena.
Meredyth Frye (Fredricksburg, Va.) leads a GSU squad, that has had its winningest month of the season, with 10.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per contest. Frye is set to play in her 80th-straight game and make her 50th-straight start on Saturday. The Lady Eagles have won three games in the month of January and have two more contests remaining. Georgia Southern is shooting 74.5 percent in January, their highest of any month this season.
The Lady Eagles hold a 25-14 advantage in the all-time series with the College of Charleston, but the Cougars stand a game ahead of GSU with a 4-7 SoCon record. Charleston stands in seventh place behind a stout defense that ranks second in the conference in scoring defense. Georgia Southern holds the top spot in the conference after allowing 56.9 points per game in 19 games this season.
Cathryn Hardy and Latisha Harris lead the team with 8.2 points per game and both occupy the top-two spots on the team's rebounding charts. In the prior meeting between the two schools this year, Hardy scored 10 points and seven boards to Harris' seven points and team-best nine rebounds. Following the loss the Cougars have won two-straight games against Wofford and Western Carolina.
