STATESBORO, Ga. - After snapping a four-game losing streak, the Georgia Southern Lady Eagles return home to host the Western Carolina Catamounts in the first game of a Pack the House in Pink doubleheader. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. with the men's team slated to follow at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday's contest could prove to be crucial in the Southern Conference standings. GSU and three other teams are tied for seventh place and outside of the top three spots the rest of the league is pretty wide open. Western Carolina (6-11, 1-7) sits a game back of Georgia Southern and needs their first win at Hanner Fieldhouse since the 2006-07 season to tie the Lady Eagles in the standings.
Kaila'She Menendez missed the team's latest game against Elon but leads the team with 12.3 points per game. The Catamounts are one of the more active teams in the league and rank fourth with 9.8 steals per game. Menendez leads the team in that category with 1.8 a game.
Standing in Western Carolina's way is a Georgia Southern (6-12, 2-7) defense that ranks first in the SoCon and posted a season-high 11 blocks at the College of Charleston. The Lady Eagles have kept their opponents in reach by allowing just 57.9 points per game and an even lower 51.7 points in league contests. Their last three contests have been decided by one point, and the Lady Eagles have had leads in all three.
MiMi DuBose (Jefferson, Ga.) has led the team in scoring in the last three contests and averages a team-best 10.3 points in SoCon games. DuBose had increased her points and scored in double figures in the three prior contests before scoring a team-high nine points against the Cougars. Meredyth Frye (Fredricksburg, Va.) leads Georgia Southern on the season with 10.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
