STATESBORO, Ga. - After a narrow escape at North Florida last weekend, the Georgia Southern Swimming & Diving team is back home at the RAC for their last home meet of the season against CCSA member Florida Gulf Coast, at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Georgia Southern (6-2) is on a streak of four-straight decisions after beating North Florida 125-118 last Saturday in Jacksonville. GSU pulled off an exciting, come-from-behind victory after the 200 Free Relay team won first-place in the final event. The Eagles won seven of 13 events, and recorded five new top times for the season.
Saturday is the final home meet of the 2011-2012 season, which also means it is Senior Day for Eagles seniors Katie Crider, Alex Mitchell and Rachael Stockwell. The Eagles will try to continue their success in the last appearance at the RAC this season.
Florida Gulf Coast (8-2) coming off of a 145-116 win over Radford on the earlier this month, will visit the RAC after facing North Florida on Friday. The FGCU is on a streak of 19-straight wins in CCSA meets, and will be ready to go after facing UNF the day before.
Head Coach Nate Kellogg knows his Eagles are in for a tough match against FGCU. "The meet this Saturday against Florida Gulf Coast will be our biggest challenge of the season and we need to be prepared to compete at the highest level of which we are capable that day. Our swimmers and divers have been training very well and I certainly expect us to compete for each other."
