Eagles Travel to Belmont Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Men's Soccer team closes out its season-opening road swing with a pair of games at the Belmont Invitational. The Eagles face Belmont on Friday, September 9th and Lipscomb on Sunday, September 11th. Both games will be played at Belmont's newly constructed E.S. Rose Park in Nashville, Tenn.
Georgia Southern (1-1-1) is led by the scoring duo of Luigi Clendening (Augusta, Ga.) and Witt Carlisle (Alpharetta, Ga.) with three goals each to share the lead in the Southern Conference. Clendening also has four assists to lead the league in points with 10.
Freshman David Vargas Masis (Cartago, Costa Rica) ranks in a six-way tie for third place in the SoCon with two goals scored against Winthrop.
Belmont enters Friday's matchup at 1-2-0 on the year. The Bears defeated Missouri State, 2-1, in the season opener and lost their last two matches against Memphis (3-2) and UCF (3-1). Brandon Tarr has two goals to lead Belmont's offensive attack.
Lipscomb is in search of its first win of the season following four losses to open the campaign. The Bison have been outscored 9-2 on the year with one tally coming via an own goal.
Georgia Southern returns home on Wednesday, September 14th for the 2011 home opener against Presbyterian College. The match kicks off from Eagle Field at 4 p.m.
