"Dromsky and Webb started off slow in their first match this weekend, but did a great job of building rhythm and improving with each match," said Head Coach Nick Zieziula. "They controlled their service game really well against Georgia, only giving up two break points and not allowing the Bulldogs to convert either chance."
Their run through the doubles bracket ended Sunday night when the tandem lost a tough match in their semifinal round 6-8 to Winthrop's Dejon Bivens and Dylan Comerford.
Webb and Dromsky also found success in singles over the weekend, winning early round matches in each of their singles brackets. Webb defeated The Citadel's James Atkinson 6-3, 6-4 and Georgia's Garrett Brasseaux 7-6(4), 6-4 to advance to the round of 16, before falling to North Carolina State's Austin Powell on Saturday. Dromsky defeated Eastern Kentucky's Emilio Piriz 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, before dropping his second round match to Chad Pierron of Lipscomb.
Other Eagles who won matches this weekend included Albert Codina Sala (Manresa, Spain) in singles and Kyle Hoffman (Sarasota, Fla.) and Matthijs Verdam (Hilversum, The Netherlands) in doubles play.
"Overall this was a good start for us," said Zieziula. "Our freshmen got their first collegiate wins and we had some success with new doubles combinations against top ranked teams. These fall events help to expose some areas for improvement and provide extra motivation for us to stay sharp as we prepare for our next competition."
The Eagles will return to the practice courts for almost two weeks before traveling to the Elon Invitational on Friday, October 7 to resume the fall schedule.
