Eagles Return Home to Face Davidson in SoCon Opener

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Men's Soccer enters the conference season this weekend with a test against Davidson in the first round of matches for the 2011 season. The match begins on Sunday, September 25th, at 2 p.m. In last year's meeting, Luigi Clendening (Augusta, Ga.) scored an 83rd minute goal to earn a 1-1 draw at Davidson's Alumni Stadium.
The Eagles are 4-2-1 on the season and coming off a defeat against Mercer in their last outing on September 18th. Georgia Southern defeated Presbyterian College in the last home match, 3-0 on September 14th.
Clendening paces the Eagle attack with six goals on the campaign and four assists. He leads the SoCon in scoring and ranks seventh nationally. The Georgia Southern offense is averaging 2.43 goals per game to rank 12th nationally and first in the SoCon.
Davidson enters the contest at 4-2-1 with a 1-0 victory over Campbell in the Wildcats' last outing. Brian McGue has three goals and two assists to lead the team in scoing while goalkeeper Chip Sanders has five shutouts and 21 saves this year.
The Eagles continue its three-game homestand against Jacksonville and College of Charleston over the next week. The Eagles play host to the Dolphins on Wednesday, September 28th, and College of Charleston on Saturday, October 1st. Both matches start at 4 p.m.
