On the courts for the first time this season, the Eagles competed in the flighted tournament against players from UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb and Southern Conference foe Western Carolina.
"I'm very proud of the way the team competed for their first tournament of the year," said Head Coach Amy Bonner. "We still have a lot of work to do to get things fined tuned before the spring, but this was a great start in the right direction. It was great to have a player in the finals of each draw."
Two other Eagles made a strong push in the 'White' singles bracket, including junior Alexandra Langmo (Boca Raton, Fla.) who won consecutive straight set matches to advance to the semifinals of the main draw and junior Taylor Jones (Warner Robins, Ga.), who rebounded from a second round, three-set loss to Gardner-Webb's Tavenner Black to advance to the finals of the back draw.
Other Eagles who won singles matches this weekend include Freshman Cameron Williams (Norcross, Ga.), who bounced back from a first round loss in the 'Blue' flight to defeat Gardner-Webb's Ioana Oprea, 6-2, 6-3 in the back draw, before falling short against UNC Asheville's McNall.
In doubles action, sophomores Caitlin Kitchen (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Mimi Bollaci (Atlanta, Ga.) won the back draw, rebounding from a first round loss to win three consecutive matches.
Ali Beeler and Cameron Williams teamed up to win two matches in doubles play and Paola Garrido teamed up with freshman Scottie French (St. Augustine, Fla.) to win their opening round match.
The fall schedule continues this Friday, September 16 at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center in Marietta, Georgia as the Eagles return to the courts for three days of tennis at the Kennesaw State Invitational.
