Women?s Tennis Closes Season After Quarterfinal Loss

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Georgia Southern Women's Tennis team (10-11, 4-6 SoCon) dropped its match, 4-0, to second-seeded UNC Greensboro (15-6, 9-1 SoCon) in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Championships. The loss at the Champions Club Thursday afternoon, April 22nd, concludes the Eagles' season.
The Spartans opened up play with wins on court one and two to capture the doubles point. The Eagles, forced to fight from behind in singles play, could not make the proper adjustment to close the margin. Wins at No. 6, No. 3 and No. 2 singles clinched the match for UNC Greensboro.
Georgia Southern closes out a season that saw the Eagles win a match at the SoCon Championships for the first time since 2008. Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) improved to 12 wins during her senior campaign, reeling off eight-straight wins during 2011. The six victories for doubles pair Caitlin Kitchen (Kennesaw, Ga.) and SoCon All-Freshman team member Paola Garrido (Vigo, Spain) at the No. 1 spot were the most wins at that seed since 2009.
