Marie Fogle Named SoCon Softball Player of the Week

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern junior Marie Fogle picked up Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week honors on Monday, March 7th, following a strong weekend at the Tennessee Classic. The selection, made by the league office, is Georgia Southern's first weekly award of the 2011 season. Elon's Lauren Taylor was named league Pitcher of the Week.
Fogle, a Rincon, Ga. native, hit .625 at the plate with a 1.375 slugging percentage for the week. She also scored twice with three RBI and two steals. Against Louisiana-Monroe, Fogle was 3-for-3 and missed hitting for the cycle by a home run. Against No. 7 Tennessee, Fogle completed the weekend cycle by hitting her third first-inning leadoff home run of the season.
Georgia Southern returns to play on Wednesday, March 9th, for a doubleheader against Mercer at Eagle Field with start times scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m. The first 50 fans will receive a free GSU spirit band. On Thursday (March10th) the Eagles play host to Mount St. Marys for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. The first 50 fans will receive free food courtesy of Domino's Pizza.
