Lady Eagles Head to SoCon Tournament as Seven Seed

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Women's Basketball team (12-17, 9-11) heads to the 2011 Southern Conference Tournament as the seven seed and will face Western Carolina at 1 p.m. on Thursday. The Lady Eagles will kick off the tournament and will play the first game at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn. The winner of the game will take on the two seed Samford on Friday at 9 a.m.
Georgia Southern leads the all-time series with Western Carolina 31-13 after splitting the regular-season series. The Lady Eagles defeated the Catamounts 69-64 in overtime in Hanner Fieldhouse on January 14th. MiMi DuBose (Jefferson, Ga.) scored 20 points and Meredyth Frye (Fredericksburg, Va.) went 13 for 14 at the free throw line to help GSU secure the victory. WCU grabbed the win on its home court a month later 51-45. Rena Wakama scored 15 points to lead all scorers in the victory.
Frye leads Georgia Southern with 11.5 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding with 5.2 a contest. Jamie Navarro (Naples, Fla.) is second on the squad with 11.3 points per game and leads the team in assists with 2.9 a contest.
The Lady Eagles welcomed back DuBose, who returned after missing nine games, in time for the season finale. She was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team by both the media and the coaches following the season. The redshirt-freshman is third on the team in scoring with 10.2 points per game and has drained 40 three pointers this season.
DuBose was second on the team with 40 treys. She scored 20 or more points in back-to-back wins against Appalachian State and Western Carolina. The freshman guard helped Georgia Southern defeat the Mountaineers with a career-best 25 points in the 73-65 win on January 10th.
Kaila'Shea Menendez powers the Catamounts with 11.1 points per game and does a good job getting to the free throw line. Menendez has taken nearly 150 free throws this season and has made 109. Caitlin Hollifield is the team's top rebounder with 6.5 boards a contest and is second on the team with 9.6 points per game.
