Women's Tennis Falls to Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Furman (3-4) came away the winner by a 7-0 score on Sunday, February 27th, as the Georgia Southern Women's Tennis (3-4) team wrapped up its first weekend of Southern Conference play. The Eagles will have a week off from competition before a non-conference match with Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday, March 9th.
The Paladins' Monica Arguello, ranked 69th nationally, defeated freshman Paola Garrido (Vigo, Spain) at number-one singles after Furman's doubles teams won the first point of the match. Senior Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) battled Paladin Katherine Oudin at the number-two seed, but the final was in Oudin's favor, 6-2, 6-2.
Sixth-seeded Alessandra Dzuba (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) won her first set over Jenny Porter 6-2. Porter, however, rebounded in the second set for a 6-0 win and then took the super tiebreaker 10-4, and the singles point for Furman. Garrido, Beavers and Dzuba all split on the weekend after recording singles wins against the Wofford Terriers on Saturday.
The Eagles return home next week for two non-conference matches before heading back on the road for SoCon play.
