Rattlers Spoil Homecoming for Men's Tennis

STATESBORO, Ga. - Florida A&M spoiled the homecoming for the Georgia Southern Men's Tennis team with a 5-2 win at the Hanner Tennis Complex Sunday, February 27th. Both Juan Melian Puigventos (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain) and Matthijs Verdam (Hilversum, The Netherlands) went undefeated in singles play with wins at number-one and number-three singles, respectively.
Verdam posted the first point for the Eagles with a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Florida A&M's Ivan Umnikov at the number-three seed to improve to 6-3 overall on the year. Melian Puigventos picked up his eighth win of the year with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over FAMU's Takura Happy at the number-one spot.
Georgia Southern plays six of its next seven matches at home and continues its current homestand with league opponent Furman on Tuesday, March 8th at the Hanner Tennis Complex. The match is set for a 2:30 p.m. start.
