Women's Tennis Drops First Conference Match

Spartanburg, S.C. - Wofford (6-3, 1-0 SoCon) edged the Georgia Southern Women's Tennis team (3-3, 0-1 SoCon) by a 4-3 score Saturday, February 26th, in the Eagles' first Southern Conference match at the Reeves Tennis Complex. The Eagles will continue conference play Sunday, February 27th, against Furman University at the Mickel Tennis Center at 12 p.m.
"Our match today was as close as they come," said Eagles Head Coach Amy Bonner. "We fought hard, but didn't have the crucial points go our way. We are going to regroup and come out strong tomorrow."
Freshman Paola Garrido (Vigo, Spain) ended Terrier senior Emilia Milovanovic's four-match winning streak with straight set wins, 6-3, 6-4, at the number-one seed, handing Milovanic her second loss of the season. Senior Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) posted a win over Wofford's Guinn Garcia at the number-two spot, battling back from a 3-6 loss in the first set with a 6-2 decision and a dominating 6-0 super tiebreaker. Number-six player, junior Alessandra Dzuba (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), rallied for the Eagles' third point with straight set wins of 6-4, 6-5 over Stephanie Cox.
Dzuba improved her record to 5-1 this season. She contributed to the Eagles' effort by scoring a point in the recent match against Georgia State when she defeated the Panther's Vi Truong, 6-1, 6-4.
