STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Women's Tennis opens Southern Conference play with road matches at Wofford (5-3) in Spartanburg, S.C., Saturday, February 26th, and Furman (1-4) on Sunday, February 27th. The Eagles and Terriers play at the Reeves Tennis Complex for the noon match on Saturday. Sunday's match between Georgia Southern and Furman is set for 12 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
"We are excited and ready to compete in our first Southern Conference matches of the season," said Georgia Southern Women's Tennis Coach Amy Bonner. "We are facing two very competitive teams right off the bat and we're hoping that the experience we've gained over the past few weeks will have prepared us to play strong in both singles and doubles play. I'm looking to my seniors to provide leadership this weekend."
Wofford rebounded with a 4-3 win at UNC Charlotte Thursday after a South Carolina State defeat at home earlier in the week. Terrier senior Emilia Milovanovic extended her match win streak to four with a win over the 49ers and an 8-1 overall record. Freshman Sarah Evans, at number-four singles, is 7-1 and also has a current four-match win streak. The Eagles and Terriers had a common opponent in South Carolina State, but Georgia Southern's season opener with the Bulldogs was cancelled due to rain.
East Carolina visits Furman on Saturday before the conference opener with the Eagles Sunday afternoon. A loss to Tulane last Sunday dropped the Paladins to 1-4 on the season. The Paladins picked up three points in singles play, including a win by senior Monica Arguello at the number-one spot. Arguello is ranked 64th nationally. Furman freshmen Katherine Oudin and Margaret Boyette contributed points with wins at the No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
