Swimming and Diving Finishes Fourth at CCSAs

ATHENS, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving team set a University record and garnered two more All-Conference selections on its way to a fourth-place finish Saturday night at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championships at Gabrielsen Natatorium. The Eagles finished fourth behind Florida Gulf Coast (879.5), Davidson (585) and Gardner-Webb (488.5).
"We aren't satisfied with fourth place, but we really could not have asked more from our team," said Head Coach Nathan Kellogg. "Everybody swam exceptionally well, a lot better than what we expected. We are happy with the way we performed and we set three school records. Everybody stepped up and we are happy about that."
Senior Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.) left her mark on the program, setting a University record in the 200 back with a second-place time of 2:00.36. The second-place finish also gave Goodman her third All-Conference selection during the CCSA Championships. It was a performance that Coach Kellogg and staff were happy to witness.
"She had a lot of confidence going into this meet and was ready to execute," said Kellogg. "Lindsay is real easy to coach and self motivates herself. We didn't know how fast she could swim coming into this weekend, but her swims really blew us away."
Sara Meisenhelder (Carmel, Ind.) became the third Eagle to receive All-Conference accolades as she placed third on the 3-meter boards with a score of 241.95.
In the 400 free relay, the Georgia Southern "A" team, consisting of Campbell, Caroline Bevillard (Bishop, Ga.), Devan White (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Laurie Stephens (Atlanta, Ga.) placed fourth with a time of 3:28.17.
Individual finishes in the top eight of the finals were plenty for the Eagles on the last day as Courtney Harrison (Greenville, S.C.) had the top Georgia Southern finish in the 200 breast in fourth place (2:19.43). Rachael Stockwell (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished inside the top 10 at ninth place (2:06.83) in the 200 fly.
Lindsay Mullican (Lancaster, Pa.) was seventh in the 200 back (2:07:08) and she also recorded a 10th place finish in the 1650 free (17:23.08) as the second Eagle finisher in that event. Senior Ali Campbell (Ft. McMurray, Alberta, Canada), was the first of four Eagles with top-16 finishes in the 1650 free. Campbell was seventh with a time of 17:14.94.
Megan Ostrom (St. Louis Park, Minn) was the second Eagle finisher in the 200 breast with a time of 2:24.15 for 12th place. Meg Beasley (Knoxville, Tenn.), just hundredths of a second behind Mullican, was 10th in the 200 backstroke race with a time of 2:07.58.
Meredith Fehr (Matthews, N.C.) and Pirie Humphries (Athens, Ga.) finished the 1650 free event back to back in 14th (17:44.23) and 15th (17:47.88), respectively. Humphries also earned a 15th-place finish with a time of 2:10.70 in the 200 fly. Sophomore Emily Fell (Brunswick, Ga.) was the only Eagle to finish in the top 16 in the 100 free, swimming to 15th-place finish (53.37).
Alden Lynch (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Amanda Macchio (Redding, Conn.) also recorded top-16 showings in the 3-meter diving event. Lynch took a 12th-place finish with 199.35 points and Macchio was 14th (184.65).
As the season closes, so do the careers of the six seniors at Georgia Southern. Coach Kellogg credits the latest senior group with the results in the pool this season.
"They are a hard working group and led our team very positively," stated Coach Kellogg on the senior group. "Their influence is the reason why we performed so well this weekend and throughout the season. I give them a lot of credit for what transpired this year."
