Statesboro, Ga. - Freshman Elaina Lanson (Wadsworth, Ohio) was named the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Swimmer of the Week for meets completed October 24-30, as announced by the league on Thursday.
The Georgia Southern swimmer set a new pool record in the 50 Free (23.79) on her way to three first place finishes against conference opponent Campbell at the Recreation Activity Center on Oct. 28. Lanson finished first in the 100 Free (52.78) and swam the first leg for the Eagles in their win in the 200 Free Relay (1:38.71).
Less than 24 hours later the Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving team competed at the Charleston Double-Duals against CCSA opponent College of Charleston and East Carolina where Lanson finished third in the 50 Meter Free (27.33) for one of the Eagles' eight top-3 finishes.
"Elaina is a tremendous talent," said Head Coach Nate Kellogg. "Her performances this past weekend are just scratching the surface of her abilities. Friday gave us a nice glimpse, but it was certainly a tough turn-around traveling that night and then competing again on Saturday. We are very proud of how our entire team united and rallied."
Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving returns to the water Nov. 17-19 when they travel to Radford, Va. for the Highlander Invitational.
