The Lady Eagles (1-3) are 1-1 on their current road trip, following a 67-34 loss at Alabama on Monday. Georgia Southern will tip-off against Stephen F. Austin (3-0) at 3:30 p.m. EST on Friday to begin this year's tournament. Depending on the outcomes of Friday's games, the Lady Eagles will play either Southern Mississippi or Jacksonville State on Saturday. Saturday's game times are set for 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. EST.
"This road trip has allowed us to bond and come together as a team," said Head Coach Rusty Cram. "The things we have to go through against some of the bigger schools will help us improve. Now it's time to apply what we've learned."
Junior Meredyth Frye (Fredericksburg, Va.) leads the Lady Eagles in scoring at 9.8 points per game and is tied with freshman Tashayla Steede (Marietta, Ga.) in rebounding, at 4.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore Aishya Wofford (Augusta, Ga.) scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds Monday night at Alabama to pace the Lady Eagles in her first career start.
Georgia Southern is averaging 46.5 points per game on 33.1% shooting from the floor. The Lady Eagles have been solid from the free throw line, shooting 75.3% on the season.
"This weekend's tournament is one that we feel we can compete in and we're excited to get out there and play," said Cram. "We had a good practice yesterday and I feel like we're making progress on both ends of the court."
Each game at the Lady Eagles Thanksgiving Classic can be heard live locally on 103.7 The Boomer or online at GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com/Eaglevision. Justin Baker will have the play-by-play, beginning 15 minutes prior to tipoff.
