Men?s Soccer Faces Wofford on Friday Afternoon

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Men's Soccer looks for a rebound on Friday afternoon against Wofford starting at 1 p.m. The Eagles fell, 3-1 at No. 26 Furman on Tuesday night, but continue to lead the league with two victories in conference play. Friday's game opens a soccer doubleheader at Eagle field with the Women's Soccer team facing Western Carolina at 4 p.m.
Senior Luigi Clendening (Augusta, Ga.) leads the Georgia Southern offense which ranks ninth nationally in scoring (2.4 goals per match) and fifth in total goals (24.0 goals). Clendening entered the week ranked fifth nationally in points per game (2.2), total points (22) and total goals (9). He leads the SoCon in each category and was named league player of the week for the games of Sept. 27-Oct. 2.
Sophomore Witt Carlisle (Alpharetta, Ga.) scored against Furman to raise his season scoring to six goals and ranks second in the SoCon.
Wofford opened conference play with a pair of losses. The Terriers fell, 5-1 against Charleston in the league opener and lost, 2-0, against Elon on Tuesday night. Alex Hutchins and C Dominguez Gonzalez lead the Terrier attack with two goals each.
Georgia Southern will try to snap a two-game losing skid against Wofford and pick up the program's 14th victory all-time over the Terriers. GSU leads the all-time series, 13-3-4 and holds a 7-2-0 advantage in Statesboro.
The Eagles travel to NC State for a non-conference match against the Wolfpack on October 11th, before closing out the home schedule on October 14th against Appalachian State at the friendly confines of Eagle Field.
