Charleston, S.C - Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving (3-2, 2-0 CCSA) split its double dual meet at the Stern Center on Saturday, defeating CCSA opponent College of Charleston (162-138), but falling to East Carolina (193-99). Competing in their second meet in less than 24 hours, the Eagles recorded eight top-3 finishes on the day.
The team of Sarah Schwartz (Greenwood, S.C.), Courtney Harrison (Greenville, S.C.), Megan Heller (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Kristen Bates (Peachtree City, Ga.) swam to a second place finish in the 400 Meter Medley Relay (4:33.24), while Heller teamed with freshmen Hannah Rogers (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Amber Juncker (Bogart, Ga.) and junior Pirie Humphries (Athens, Ga.) for a second place finish in the 400 Meter Free Relay (4:09.61).
In the 100 Meter Breaststroke, freshman Abigail Lavallin (Bridgwater, Somerset) placed second (1:16.22) and sophomore Megan Ostrom (St. Louis Park, Minn.) swam to a third place finish (1:16.41). Ostrom later placed second in the 200 Meter Individual Relay (2:31.57) to earn her second top-3 finish on the day.
Harrison finished second in the 200 Meter Breaststroke (2:45.60) and Schwartz placed third in the 200 Meter Backstroke (2:25.37), giving both a pair of top-3 finishes on the afternoon.
Freshman Elaina Lanson (Wadsworth, Ohio) finished third in the 50 Meter Free (27.33) to round out the top-3 scoring for the Eagles.
"It was a really good effort all the way around for us today," said Head Coach Nate Kellogg. "It was a challenge after the quick turnaround from last night's meet. Things started off a little slow for us, but we responded very well and our divers did a great job today. It's important that we're able to swim well when we're fatigued. We will need to be mentally tough as we move through the season and get closer to the championships in February."
