Swimming & Diving Begins 2011-12 Campaign

The Eagles return fourteen letterwinners who were part of one of the most successful seasons in program history. Last year's squad broke the Eagles' all-time record for most regular season wins, earning 13 meet victories before placing fourth at the CCSA Championships. Thirteen freshmen and one sophomore transfer joined the program this offseason, making this one of the youngest teams in recent memory.
Head Coach Nate Kellogg enters his eighth season leading the Eagles and is second on the school's all-time wins list, having registered 58 meet wins in his seven seasons at the helm.
"We have a young, but very talented team," said Kellogg. "The work ethic is there and that's a great combination for a coach to work with. We expect our seniors and juniors to be leaders in and out of the pool. They will be the backbone of our team, as the younger swimmers and divers develop during the season."
Coach Kellogg and his staff emphasize the importance of using dual meets to work on execution, while gaining valuable race experience as they build a foundation for the conference championships in February.
"We're excited to see how they execute the things we've gone over in practice," said Kellogg. "We have a lot of swimmers on this team who really like to race. They have really good race instincts which can be tough to teach sometimes, and having that gives them an advantage."
The competition this weekend will be a good test for the Eagles early in the season.
"Both teams we'll face on Saturday are very talented," said Kellogg. "Clemson is a quality program from a quality conference and they will be a tough matchup. Our meets with SCAD are always very competitive. It's their first meet of the season also, and I know as the host, they'll be fired up and ready to go."
