Softball Finishes Fall Season Undefeated

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Softball finished its first fall season under new Head Coach Annie Smith with a perfect 8-0 record. The Eagles allowed just one run in its opening weekend of play while scoring 36 runs and closed the campaign with a pair of one run victories over Georgia Tech.
Senior outfielder Marie Fogle (Rincon, Ga.) continued her hot hitting with a .667 batting average (16-for-24) in the fall. She continued her power hitting with two home runs including one against Georgia Tech.
Sophomore transfer Kourtney Thomas (Warner Robins, Ga.) joined the Eagles for the first time and hit .474 in the fall in the No. 4 place in the batting order. A transfer from Tennessee, Thomas hit three home runs along with three doubles to lead the team with 13 RBI.
Freshman Hannah Wilson (Thomson, Ga.) hit .444 while junior Tabby Douberley (Bloomingdale, Ga.) finished the fall with a .412 batting average. Senior Jorie Walker (Dublin, Ga.) moved from the infield to the outfield and hit .381.
The Eagle pitching staff finished the fall season with a 1.60 combined ERA and freshman Marla Thompson (Statesboro, Ga.) finishing with a 0.47 ERA and a 2-0 record over 15.0 innings of work. Sophomore pitcher Sarah Purvis (Bonaire, Ga.) struck out 30 opposing batters and recorded a 3-0 record with an 1.17 ERA in 18 innings of work. Freshman pitcher Brooke Red (Warner Robins, G.a) also recorded a 3-0 record, but with a 3.27 ERA.
