Statesboro, Ga. - Sophomore Paola Garrido (Vigo, Spain) and junior Natalie Maffett (Rome, Ga.) will compete in the singles and doubles draws this weekend at the 2011 ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Gainesville, Florida. The four-day singles and doubles individual event is hosted by the University of Florida at the Ring Tennis Complex on Friday, Oct. 21 through Monday, Oct. 24 and will feature the top players from 19 Division I schools in Georgia and Florida.
Garrido was one half of a tandem that won the A-1 doubles title two weeks ago at the Elon Invitational, while Maffett advanced to the finals of the back draw with her partner in A-2 doubles. This will be the first time Garrido and Maffett will team up in doubles competition this season.
Garrido also won the A-1 singles title at Elon and Maffett won her singles flight at the Kennesaw State Invitational in September.
"The singles final in Elon was a big match for Paola," said Head Coach Amy Bonner. "She lost to Elon's no. 1 player (Jordan Johnston) last spring in a very close three-set match, so hopefully that gives her a little bit of a high coming into this weekend."
"Natalie has also played well this fall. I feel like she's ready and I'm excited to see what she can do against a tough field this weekend."
