Lady Eagles Look to Get Back on Track Against Wofford Monday

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Women's Basketball looks to get back on track against Wofford Monday at 7 p.m. The Lady Eagles return to the friendly confines of Hanner Fieldhouse where they have won six-straight games this season and will play their final home game in the month of January. A country theme will take over Hanner as fans are encouraged to wear country, cowboy and cowgirl-themed clothing for the game. Country music will be played during the game, and a country-theme halftime contest will highlight the in-game promotions.
GSU returns home after dropping a pair of road conference games at Charleston and Furman after having won three straight against Davidson, Appalachian State and Western Carolina.
The Lady Eagles are led by Jamie Navarro's (Naples, Fla.) 12.2 points per game. The Naples, Fla., native also averages 4.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per contest. Meredyth Frye (Fredericksburg, Va.) is second on the team with 11.3 points per contest and leads the team in the month of January with 13.6 points per game. Frye led the team in scoring in both road games last week.
Forward Krista Tate (Atlanta, Ga.) broke her career high for rebounds in both road contests last week. She pulled down 15 boards against the Paladins, the most by a Lady Eagle since J'Lisa Ogburn pulled down 15 rebounds at UNC Greensboro on December 17, 2008. She has recorded nearly as many assists as Navarro and averages 2.7 per game. Tate is fourth on the team with 9.3 points per game and leads this year's squad in rebounding with 6.8 a game.
Wofford is 6-11 and 2-7 in the Southern Conference after an 80-50 loss to Davidson Saturday. The Wildcats shot 50 percent from the floor and recorded 14 steals to record the win. The Terriers owned a 17-16 lead with nine minutes remaining in the first half, but a 28-6 run to end the half by Davidson put the Wildcats ahead for good.
Mahagony Williams just missed out on a double-double for the Terriers. Williams tallied 10 points and nine rebounds, while April Moorhouse drained a team-best 12 points. Moorhouse is one of three players to start in every game for Wofford and leads the team with 12 points a game. Williams leads the squad with 8.1 rebounds a contest and is second on the team with 10.9 points per contest. Rachel Brittenham has made a team-best 25 threes and is averaging 8.9 points per game.
Georgia Southern holds a 26-4 all-time record against Wofford. The Terriers won the first meeting 79-72 in 1992, but it has been all Lady Eagles since then. Georgia Southern had won 16-straight games against Wofford before the Terriers pulled off a 78-66 upset last month.
Four Lady Eagles scored in double figures in the December 1st meeting, but Wofford shot nearly 50 percent from the floor to capture their first SoCon win of the 2010-11 season. Tate led Georgia Southern with 17 points, while Samantha Williams (Kingsport, Tenn.) added a career-best 16 points. Five Terriers scored 10 or more points with Rachel Brittenham draining a team-best 17 points. Mahagony Williams tallied a double-double with 16 points and 13 boards.
The Lady Eagles will have a week off before their next contest at Samford next Monday. Georgia Southern will continue to seek its first road SoCon win of the season in Birmingham, Ala.
