Lady Eagles Take Three-Game Win Streak on the Road

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Women's Basketball (8-10, 5-4) takes its three-game winning streak on the road and will face the College of Charleston Wednesday at the Carolina First Arena in a 7 p.m. contest. The Lady Eagles are seeking their first road SoCon win of the season and their second overall.
Charleston is 4-13 and 1-7 in the Southern Conference after dropping a 50-45 decision to UNC Greensboro Saturday. The Cougars' lone conference win was a 56-50 victory over Chattanooga in their SoCon opener on December 16th.
Georgia Southern holds a 24-12 advantage in the 36 all-time meetings between the two Southern Conference programs. The two squads have met in the first round of the SoCon Tournament in two of the last three seasons, including a 57-56 GSU win last year. Jessica Geiger hit a three with less than 20 seconds remaining to secure the win for the Lady Eagles. The two squads split last season's regular season meetings with the road team winning each contest. The College of Charleston defeated Georgia Southern 57-53 in the first meeting of the season. The Lady Eagles won the second matchup 52-41 in Charleston on February 13th.
Georgia Southern is coming off their sixth straight home victory after defeating Western Carolina 69-64 in overtime for their 600th win in program history. MiMi DuBose (Jefferson, Ga.) scored in 20 or more points in back-to-back games and is averaging a team-best 15.1 points per game in the last eight games. The Lady Eagles are 6-2 in that period.
Georgia Southern is shooting a program record 75.7 percent from the free throw line this season. The Lady Eagles went to the line a season-best 36 times and made 29 against the Catamounts. Meredyth Frye (Fredericksburg, Va.) led GSU at the line with a career-best 13 for 14 shooting from the charity stripe. Frye was second on the team with 18 points.
Jamie Navarro (Naples, Fla.) leads the Lady Eagles with 12.7 points per game and is team leader in assists with 3.2 a contest. DuBose and Frye both average in double figures, while Krista Tate (Atlanta, Ga.) is just shy of that mark with 9.6 points per game. Tate is Georgia Southern's leading rebounder with 6.0 boards per contest.
Charleston played four-straight conference road games before returning home to face UNCG Saturday and Georgia Southern Wednesday. The Cougars play a strong brand of defense, ranking fourth in the SoCon in scoring defense. They are also holding opposing shooters to a 29.6 percentage from behind the arc which ranks second in the league.
Janae Smith leads the team with 11.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Tonia Gerty also averages double figures with 10.4 points a contest and is the team leader in assists with 3.3 a game. Megan Fischer leads the Cougars in three-point shooting with 22 made threes in 72 attempts. Over half of her made field goals have come from behind the arc. Fischer is third on the team with 7.6 points per game.
