Eagles Square Off With Jacksonville In First Road Contest

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Men's Soccer team will play its first road game of the season Tuesday, September 7, at Jacksonville at 7 p.m.
The Eagles enter the match with a 1-0-0 record after knocking off USC Upstate in a 4-3 comeback win at Eagle Field Wednesday, Sept. 1. Witt Carlisle (Alpharetta, Ga.) scored two goals in the final thirty minutes, including the game-winner in the 82nd minute to lift the Eagles to victory.
Goalkeeper Ryan Platt (Preston, England) played all 90 minutes, earning the win. The junior transfer made five saves in the match, facing a total of 12 shots, eight on goal.
Freshman Ethan LaPan (Martinez, Ga.) scored a goal on an assist from freshman Hunter Norton (Evans, Ga.), and Rich Heyer (Tupelo, Miss.) scored on an assist from Thomas Valikonis (Greenville, S.C.), who finished with a pair of assists.
Jacksonville comes into the match with a 1-1-0 record, 1-0-0 in Atlantic Sun play, outlasting Florida Atlantic 2-1 in overtime in the conference opener. The Dolphins fell 5-0 to Central Florida in their season opener. Darko Karamatic scored both goals for the Dolphins in their win.
The Eagles and Dolphins have faced each other 16 times, with Jacksonville leading the all-time series 9-5-2. Two matches have gone to overtime, with the Eagles posting a 1-0-1 record in matches that extended past regulation.
The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ashley Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.
