Eagles Face No. 25 UNC Greensboro and Elon in SoCon Road Matches

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Women's Soccer team begins a four-game road trip this weekend, taking on UNC Greensboro at UNCG Soccer Stadium on Friday, October 1 at 7 p.m. The Eagles will then face Elon on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. in Burlington, N.C.
The Eagles enter the weekend with a 4-5-0 record, 1-1-0 in the Southern Conference, after splitting a pair of SoCon matches the first weekend of conference play. Georgia Southern defeated Wofford 3-0 with a pair of goals by Sara Oland (Evans, Ga.) before falling 3-1 to Furman.
With seven goals on the season, Oland leads the conference while climbing to 26th in the NCAA Division I. Four other Eagles have also scored at least one goal.
Goalkeepers Missy Meyer (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Katie Merson (Albuquerque, N.M.) have combined to make 34 saves on the season, with Merson making 22 saves in seven starts.
UNC Greensboro, ranked No. 25 in the nation after sweeping Chattanooga and Samford on the road on the first weekend of SoCon matchups, enters the match with a 7-1-1 record (2-0-0 SoCon). Jenn Partenheimer leads the Spartans with four goals, while Lauren Hein has scored three times with one assist. Kelsey Kearney has made 33 saves while allowing just seven goals in nine matches. The junior also has four shutouts on the season.
The Eagles have faced UNC Greensboro 14 times. The Spartans lead the all-time series 11-3. Fans can view live streaming and live stats at www.uncgspartans.com.
Elon is led by Brittany Hallberg, who has scored four goals with two assists. Alanna Winsper has three goals and three assists, while Kimmie Krauss has three goals with a pair of assists. Elon carries a 6-3-1 overall record, 1-1-0 SoCon, after an opening weekend split with a 3-2 loss at Chattanooga following a 1-0 victory over Samford. Goalkeeper Kristen Haney has recorded 36 saves while allowing 12 goals in 10 matches.
