Eagles Score Late To Earn 1-1 Draw Against Radford

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Trailing 1-0 late in the second half, David Leonard (Augusta, Ga.) scored and the Eagles (1-2-1) held Radford (1-2-1) scoreless in overtime to earn a 1-1 draw in the final round of the Flash Gordon Motors Invitational in High Point, N.C., Sunday (September 12).
Drew Ruggles (Manassas, Va.) lined up a free-kick in the 79th minute, sending it in front of the goal. Leonard leaped to get his head to the ball, sending it past Radford goalkeeper Ryan Taylor to even the score with his first goal of the season.
On the other end, Ryan Platt (Preston, England) made save after save to finish with 12 in match. However, he was unable to keep the clean sheet when Radford got a break in the 13th minute. Luis Grande sent a ball through to Iyiola Awosika, who took a shot from the right side of the box. The shot went just past the out-stretched arms of Platt, bounding off the far post and into the net.
Platt made 10 of his saves in after halftime, including four in the first overtime to keep the Eagles in the match. Georgia Southern a pair of chances to win in the second overtime, but each time Taylor was able to make the save for Radford.
The Eagles will continue to play on the road, taking on North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. The Eagles next home match is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 19 against Winthrop at noon.
