Swimming & Diving Team Earns Scholar All-America Honors

STATESBORO, Ga. - The 2010 Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving team was recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for earning Scholar All-American Team honors for the spring 2010 semester. Along with team honors, senior Courtney Martz earned Scholar All-American honors.
Georgia Southern tied with Vanderbilt University with a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.32. The Swimming and Diving team's 3.46 GPA placed it in a seventh-place tie with Bucknell University in fall 2009. This is the sixth straight semester that the Eagles have been honored as a CSCAA Scholar All-American Team.
"We are very proud of our team's academic accomplishments from the spring 2010 semester," said Eagles Head Coach Nathan Kellogg. "They are proof that student-athletes can be successful in the pool and in the classroom. We look to continue these successes in the future."
Martz, a senior from Woodbine, Ga. (Camden County), is an early childhood education major. She set individual school records in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle and is a member of four record-setting relay teams. She shares team school records as the first leg in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay and as the anchor in the 200- and 400-yard medley relay
The CSCAA ranks all Division I teams twice a year, once after each semester. The teams received the distinction of CSCAA Scholar All-American for posting a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. To earn recognition as an Individual CSCAA Scholar All-American, each swimmer/diver must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.5 and be selected to participate in the NCAA, NAIA or JC Swimming and Diving Championship.
