STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern men's soccer head coach Kevin Kennedy announced the slate for 2010 that includes tough non-conference opponents like N.C. State and Clemson and the always challenging Southern Conference schedule. The Eagles open the season at home with one of five regular-season games outside the two exhibition matches to be held at Eagle Field.
“We're very excited about our 2010 schedule. In addition to our Southern Conference matches that are always extremely competitive, we will face some very good opponents throughout the course of the season,” said head coach Kennedy. “With Clemson and N.C. State on the schedule, we will face some very good teams from the ACC. Additionally, when we travel to High Point, we will face two quality teams from the Big South. And we'll have the opportunity to host the current Big South Champion, Winthrop, in mid-September.”
A pair of practice exhibitions will prepare the Eagles for the regular season home opener against USC Upstate on September 1 at 4 p.m. GS then commences a four-game road swing beginning at Jacksonville (Sept. 7). The Eagles then turn north heading to North Carolina to visit High Point for the Flash Gordon Soccer Tournament against the Panther hosts (Sept. 10) and Radford (Sept. 12). The four-game road stint closes out back in Jacksonville against North Florida on Sept. 15.
The Eagles wrap up “season one” with a home contest against Winthrop on Sept. 19 before opening the conference slate with Furman on Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. A league contest at Appalachian (October 2) precedes a matchup at 2009 NCAA Tournament participant N.C. State, Oct. 5.
A home conference game against UNC Greensboro (Oct. 10) will split a pair of road non-conference tilts against the Wolfpack and Presbyterian Blue Hose (Oct. 12) which starts a five-game road swing. Following Presbyterian, GS travels to College of Charleston (Oct. 16) before closing out non-conference play which concludes in the middle of the five-game road trip at Clemson on Oct. 19. The Eagles challenge the Tigers at 7 p.m. before closing out the regular-season with a trio of conference gigs.
A trip to Wofford begins the final stretch for the Eagles on Oct. 23 before a visit to Davidson on Oct. 26. The Eagles finalize the regular-season slate with Senior Day on Oct. 29 welcoming the Elon Phoenix in a 3 p.m. league matchup.
