Three Eagles Earn Southern Conference Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Georgia Southern) - Three Eagles earned All-Southern Conference honors, league officials announced Tuesday. Nina Iduate and Brianna Streetmon took the top two individual awards for Georgia Southern, while Megen Smith was also named to the First Team.
Iduate, a senior from Norcross, Ga., was named SoCon Player of the Year after leading the league with a .458 batting average during the regular season. Her batting average ranks ninth in the NCAA. The shortstop tallied a league-best 82 hits over the course of 52 games to take the SoCon's top-honor.
She also scored 37 runs and had 11 RBIs with three doubles, a triple and a home run. On the base paths, Iduate swiped 13 bases in 19 attempts.
Streetmon, a junior from Winder, Ga., earned her second consecutive SoCon Pitcher of the Year award after leading the league with 19 wins. She allowed just 58 earned runs in a league-high 208.1 innings for a second-best conference ERA of 1.95. Her 159 strikeouts rank fourth in the league.
Megen Smith joined the pair on the First Team after leading the SoCon with a Georgia Southern single-season record 16 home runs. The junior from Springfield, Ga., also leads the conference with 44 RBIs and has a league best .685 slugging percentage.
Smith has split time as the designated player and patrolling right field for the Eagles. She has also had success in the circle, recording seven wins and a save as a pitcher.
The trio of first-teamers will lead the Eagles into the 2010 Southern Conference Tournament Thursday at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn.
