Lady Eagles Set to Tangle with Chattanooga and Samford

STATESBORO, GA – Georgia Southern welcomes two of the top teams in the Southern Conference to Hanner Fieldhouse on Saturday and Monday. Chattanooga enters Hanner on Saturday, February 6 at 3 p.m. before Samford travels in Monday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.
Riding a four-game win streak, and taking six of the past seven, Georgia Southern (13-9, 8-5) will look to avenge two earlier season losses to its Southern Conference opponents this weekend. In back-to-back games, Georgia Southern defeated Western Carolina by decisions of 74-61 and 62-48, respectively, for a conference sweep. J'Lisia Ogburn (Dublin, Ga.) contributed 18 points in the win in Hanner on Wednesday, while Jamie Navarro (Naples, Fla.) added 13. GS lost the edge on glass, but pulled out the win scoring 36 points in the paint.
Carolyn Whitney (Duluth, Ga.) and Ogburn lead the Lady Eagles in scoring on the year averaging 11.5 and 10.6 points per game, respectively. Ogburn holds a slight edge on the glass, pulling down 5.1 rpg to Jessica Geiger's (Stone Mountain, Ga.) 5.0. Jamie Navarro (Naples, Fla.) leads the team in steals with 35 and ties for the team lead with Whitney in assists with 55 on the season.
Standing in first place on the SoCon leaderboard, Chattanooga brings a 17-6, 12-2 record into Statesboro on Saturday. The Lady Mocs have won their past 12 straight contests with their last loss coming on Dec. 17 at Elon. Most recently, Chattanooga completed a season sweep over UNC Greensboro, 82-63 (Feb. 1).
Shanara Hollinquest and Jenaya Wade-Fray pace the Lady Mocs' offense on the year, draining 17.5 and 13.4 points per game on average. Hollinquest leads on both ends of the floor, securing 8.7 rebounds per game, while also leading in steals with 32 on the year.
Chattanooga holds the all-time series advantage over Georgia Southern, 26-17 and leads when competing in Statesboro, 10-8. Head coach Rusty Cram is 9-11 when facing the Lady Mocs. GS dropped the first decision of the season at Chattanooga, 57-55, despite holding an early lead.

Emily London, who missed her first collegiate game of her career against Elon, leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.0 points per game. Savannah Hill follows London with 12.7 points per game and leads on the boards with 5.3 rpg. London has collected 42 steals on the season to lead the team, while Hill paces the Lady Mocs in assists with 77.

Also, the Bulloch County Recreation Department basketball team will perform at halftime, while the 2010 Georgia Southern softball team will be recognized at halftime of the contest. Tip against Chattanooga is slated for 3 p.m.
Bulloch County Elementary Education Night will be held, Monday, February 8 when the Lady Eagles welcome the Samford Bulldogs to Statesboro. All teachers, staff and students who state their Bulloch County elementary school name at the ticket window will receive free admission into the contest, which starts at 7 p.m. Also, the Verizon Wireless Street Team will hand out promotional items on site.
