Lady Eagles Host Appalachian State on Senior Day

STATESBORO, GA – Before Georgia Southern battles it out against Appalachian State, four Lady Eagles will be recognized before their final home contest on Senior Day, February 27, in Hanner Fieldhouse. Jessica Geiger, J'Lisia Ogburn, Carolyn Whitney and Elise Whitney will take the court prior to the contest to be recognized before GS competes in its final regular season contest of the 2009-2010 season. Tip is slated for 5 p.m.
Coming off a decisive 58-47 win at Davidson (Feb. 22), Georgia Southern (17-11, 12-7) enters the contest in fifth place on the Southern Conference standings. Jamie Navarro (Naples, Fla.) scored a career-high 19 points in the first win over the Wildcats since 2003 and first win in Davidson since 2001. Navarro hit 6-of-12 from the field – including three treys - and added a 4-of-4 effort at the charity stripe for her career-high posting.
Continuing to lead the Lady Eagles in scoring, Whitney (Duluth, Ga.) averages 11.7 points per contest and leads the team in assists with 67. Navarro is second in assists behind Whitney with 64. Senior Geiger (Stone Mountain, Ga.) leads the team in rebounding, securing 5.2 boards per contest. Ogburn (Dublin, Ga.) follows closely behind with 4.9 rpg.
Appalachian State (18-10, 14-5) has turned hot the second half of the season, winning 11 of its past 12, and past four straight. The Mountaineers recently defeated Wofford 76-62 in Boone using a 17-4 second half run to secure the win after being knotted at 43-apiece. ASU is tied for second in league standings with Samford.
Ashlen Dewart paces the Mountaineer offense, scoring 14.5 points per contest, while Sam Ramirez contributes 13.6. Anna Freeman leads the edge on glass with 8.4 rebounds per contest as Dewart averages 5.5 behind Freeman.
Georgia Southern took the first decision of the 2009-2010 season in Boone, 73-68, and leads the all-time series, 30-13. The SoCon foes split the series last season, but GS also holds the series advantage in Statesboro, 11-7. Head coach Rusty Cram boasts a 24-7 record when facing ASU.
In conjunction with the baseball game that afternoon at 1:30 p.m., anyone who presents their ticket stub from the baseball game at the entrance to Hanner Fieldhouse will receive free admission into the women's basketball game. Also, all Junior Eagle Club members will also receive free admission into the contest.
In addition, Georgia Southern students selected to participate in two promotions will have the chance to win two (2) $100 cash prizes.
