Eagles Set Five University Records During CCSA Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Georgia Southern finished the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championships in fifth place with 429.5 points after the final day of competition. Senior Lauren Parr (Canton, Ohio) broke her third University record during the three-day event, swimming a 2:04.67 time in the 200-yard butterfly preliminaries Saturday. Parr would capture fifth place in the event with a finals time of 2:06.26, which ranked as one of the top times of the 2009-10 season. Parr set the new standards for GSU in the 200-yard Individual Medley (2:05.63) on the first day and the 400-yard I.M. (4:23.00) Friday.
Florida Gulf Coast won its second straight championship on the women's side in 2010, with 831.5 points during the three-day event at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee. Davidson finished second (637), and Gardner-Webb third (516.5). North Florida was fourth (480), just ahead of the Eagles.
Senior Courtney Martz (Woodbine, Ga.) took the highest finish of the final day with third place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.60, narrowly missing her previous University record by .11 seconds. Caroline Bevillard (Bishop, Ga.) swam her personal best of the 2009-10 season in the 100 free with a time of 53.37 for 11th place in the B-Final.
Three Georgia Southern swimmers recorded times within the top five for the season in the 1,650-yard freestyle with junior Ali Campbell (Ft. McMurray, Alberta) posting the second best time of the season at 17:20.87 for sixth place. Freshman Lindsay Mullican (Lancaster, Pa.) placed 10th in the B-final with a time of 17:36.89 and senior Jordyn Pasley (Knoxville, Tenn.) had a time of 17:49.65.
Junior Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.) took sixth place in the 200-yard backstroke event and her time of 2:04.61 represents the best time of the 2009-10 Eagles season. Mullican posted an 11th-place finish in the B-final (2:08.46), taking more than three seconds off her previous best season time.
Finishing behind Parr in the 200 fly, sophomore Rachel Stockwell (Jacksonville, Fla. -- 2:10.21) and junior Meredith Fehr (Mathews, N.C. -- 2:11.38) took 13th and 16th place, respectively, in the B-final. Both their times at the UT pool rank among the top five this season.
Senior Ashley White (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior Kristen Haudenschild (Woodbridge, Va.) competed in the 200-yard breaststroke preliminaries with White checking in at 2:28.30 and Haudenschild at 2:28.69. Both times rank in the top five of the 2009-10 season times for that event.
Freshman Alden Lynch (Jacksonville, Fla.) scored 202.71 points in the three-meter diving event, the final scored event of the day, to capture sixth place for the Eagles.
Overall, five University records were broken, including three individual marks by Parr. On the first day of the championships, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Martz, Campbell, Bevillard and Pasley recorded a time of 1:35.22 for the latest record. Martz's split time (22.98) in the relay would replace the University record for the 50-yard freestyle.
