SPARTANBURG, S.C. –Georgia Southern and Wofford played a scoreless second half, but an early first half goal from the Terriers would be all Wofford needed to come away with a 1-0 Southern Conference win Saturday evening (October 23) at Snyder Field.
Georgia Southern (3-9-2, 0-5-0) and Wofford (2-9-2, 1-5-0) matched one another with 12 shots in the contest and five on goal. Just over twenty seconds into the match, the Terriers took a corner kick, but it would be three minutes and 50 seconds later that Wofford would take the final lead.
Wilson Hood put the Terriers on the scoreboard with his fourth goal of the season coming at 4:13. The Eagles tried to even the score when Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.) took a shot at 38:17, but Wofford held off the threat, blocking Georgia Southern's first shot. Wofford took another two shots before closing out the half with a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles threatened immediately in the second half with a Thomas Valikonis (Greenville, S.C.) header, but Terrier goalkeeper Andrew Drennan picked up his first save of the contest. Georgia Southern would take another four shots on goal in the second half, but failed to find the back of the net against Drennan, who picked up five saves in the period.
Georgia Southern took a total of 11 shots in the final 45 minutes to Wofford's four. Ryan Platt (Preston, England) recorded four saves in the matchup, three coming in the second half.
