Georgia Southern Sweeps the Double-Duals

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving team swept the double-dual meet as it played host to Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) foe College of Charleston and NAIA member Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) at the Recreation Activity Center (RAC). The Eagles defeated College of Charleston (128-99) and SCAD (139-73) to go 4-1 on the season. Georgia Southern also played host to the men's swimming and diving teams of College of Charleston and SCAD.
"We did really well, everyone came out fired up," stated Head Coach Nathan Kellogg. "Every swimmer and diver competed as a collective group and everybody was on their game. The results kind of speak for themselves."
Georgia Southern won 12 of 13 events, including three events where the Eagles finished first, second and third. Leading the Eagles were Ali Campbell (Ft. McMurray, Alberta, Canada), Devan White (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.), who all finished first in three events.
Campbell swam to a first-place finish in the 50 free (25.03) and also in the 1000 freestyle (10:34.02). Pirie Humphries (Athens, Ga.), finished behind Campbell in second for the 1000 free (10:46.54) and finished second in the 200 fly (2:13.18). White swept the 100 and 200 freestyle events, with times of 53.92 and 1:55.99, respectively. Both Campbell and White collaborated with Caroline Bevillard (Bishop, Ga.) and Laurie Stephens (Atlanta, Ga.) to win the 400 free relay (3:36.24).
Goodman won the 200 back (2:09.35) and was followed by Megan Ostrom (St. Louis Park, Minn.) and Lindsay Mullican (Lancaster, Pa.) to finish first (4:37.48), second (4:42.08) and third (4:43.82), respectively in the 400 IM.
Goodman's contributed to the win in the 400 Medley Relay, swimming the first leg of the Eagle "A' team that also included Ostrom, Mullican and Bevillard, to finish with a first-place time of 4:00.81. Courtney Harrison (Greenville, S.C.) posted two wins as she won the 500 free (5:09.85) and 200 breast (2:26.08).
Georgia Southern swept both diving competitions, recording first, second and third in the same order on both the one-meter and three-meter boards. Sara Meisenhelder (Carmel, Ind.), Amanda Macchio (Redding, Conn.) and Alden Lynch (Jacksonville, Fla.) placed first (216.65), second (193.15) and third (189.15), respectively, on the one-meter boards. The trio also finished in the same order on the three-meter board, scoring first (229.40), second (202.15) and third (196.40), respectively.
With the two victories, Georgia Southern is now 14-3 all-time at The RAC, a record in which Coach Kellogg takes pride.
"Our team responds fairly well on the road but we're pretty good at home," said Coach Kellogg. "It's nice when family and friends can come into town to watch us compete. It fires up the girls because they want to do well in front of their friends and family. We spend every day in here and are used to the surroundings. This gives us a nice advantage when we compete at home."
Georgia Southern will have time to prepare at home before the team travels to Radford, Va., for the Highlander Invitational on Thursday, Nov. 18th.
"We're really going to keep trying to push the envelope in terms of training, fitness and intensity," said Coach Kellogg on the Eagles' preparation for the Highlander Invitational. "We are going to go back to the grindstone."
