STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern held the halftime lead with a goal from Courtney Collins (Mason, Ohio), but four Chattanooga second half goals lifted the Mocs past the Eagles 4-1 Friday afternoon (October 22) at Eagle Field. Donna-Kay Henry scored three of the Mocs' four goals to secure the Southern Conference win for Chattanooga.
Collins and Sara Oland (Evans, Ga.) teamed up to put the Eagles (5-10, 2-7) in front 1-0 in the first half. Oland set up a nice cross pass to Collins in position who found the back of the net with a shot up the middle at 14:40. The goal marked Collins' first of the season.
The Eagles moved to defensive mode for the remainder of the first half, limiting Chattanooga to five shots, only two of which were on goal. Georgia Southern took two additional shots on goal in the first half.
Chattanooga (4-11-2, 2-5-2) took control in the second half, unleashing four goals to secure the conference win. Just over two minutes into the second half, Anna Cusick tied the game at 1-1 scoring on a shot off a free kick taken by Lauren Wilson. The Mocs took the lead 2-1 in the 50th minute when Henry found the back of the net for the first time in the contest. Henry carried the ball from midfield and beat the keeper for her seventh goal of the season.
Georgia Southern took two shots and a corner kick before Henry's second goal at 59:11. Wilson took the free kick for the Mocs and Henry scored on a header into the right side of the goal. Henry's third goal of the contest came in the 77th minute of play. Henry scored during a scramble in the box for the final 4-1 score. Wilson was credited with the assist, her third of the game.
