SoCon Road Trips Continue for Men's Soccer

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Men's Soccer team begins a stretch of three conference matches with Wofford on Saturday, October 23rd. The Eagles (3-8-2, 0-4 SoCon) face the Terriers (1-9-2, 0-5 SoCon), at 6 p.m. at Snyder Field. After a road game at Davidson Tuesday, October 26th, Georgia Southern returns to Eagle Field for the regular-season finale versus Elon Friday, October 29th at 3 p.m..
The Eagles are coming off two-overtime 1-1 tie in an out-of-conference match at Clemson earlier in the week and a 0-2 loss at the hands of SoCon leader College of Charleston. Wofford has lost its last five matches.
"Our last two games were pretty good team performances," said Eagle Head Coach Kevin Kennedy said. "We did a lot of things well against Clemson putting ourselves in the position to win. Now, we need that to carry over into conference play and go there prepared to score some goals and play good defense."
Senior forward Jon Cox (Marietta, Ga.) scored his fourth goal of the season in the Clemson match and is Georgia Southern's scoring leader with two assists to go along with his team-leading for goals. Freshman Hunter Norton (Evans, Ga.) has two goals and three assists for seven points with classmate Ethan LePan (Martinez, Ga.) at six points from three goals. Ryan Platt (Preston, England) has 10 starts in goal with 44 saves.
Georgia Southern possess a 13-3-4 record in the Wofford series, winning six straight matches against the Tigers. The Eagles have a 4-1-3 record at Snyder Field.
Wofford is led by the tandem of Wilson Hood and Amin Kinigadner. Hood has a team-best three goals and an assist while Kinigadner has assisted on five goals, scoring one of his own. Eight other Terriers have scored one goal. Ben Limbaugh started in goal in the Terriers' last game against UNCG (1-2 loss), but Andrew Drennan has played the majority of the season. Drennan boasts 38 saves on the year.
"We're in the stretch of our final three conference games and each game is an opportunity to keep pushing us higher in the tournament seeding," Kennedy said about the Wofford match. "We want to try to get as many points so we can to play a lower seed in the first round."
