STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Men's Soccer team continues its stretch of matches on the road, heading to Clemson to face the Tigers Tuesday, October 19th, in an out-of-conference contest. The match begins at 7 p.m. and will be available for subscription viewing on TigerCast at clemsontigers.com/all-access. The Eagles return to Southern Conference play Saturday, Oct. 23rd at Wofford.
"It's going to be a great test for us and it's always an exciting atmosphere to play in," said Eagles Head Coach Kevin Kennedy about the match at Riggs Field. "As for us, were going to try to go out there, do our best and eliminate the defensive errors that cost us goals."
The Eagles and Tigers have met seven previous times with Clemson holding a 5-1-1 advantage. Kennedy and the Eagles defeated the Tigers 2-1 in front of more than 6,000 fans in 2008, becoming only the 16th team to win at Riggs Field under the lights.
Georgia Southern (3-8-1) lost a tough battle at No. 25 College of Charleston Saturday 0-2. The Eagles had eight shots on goal, five in the second half, but could not get past the posts.
"We're going to be focused on trying to finish off our opportunities," Kennedy commented. "We feel like we are doing well in creating chances, we weren't able to finish our chance this weekend and really put ourselves in a position to be successful. Looking at the outcome with the game with Charleston, we just did not have that finishing touch and we'll try to focus on finishing under pressure."
Senior forward Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.) is the Eagles' leading scorer with three goals and two assists with freshman midfielder Hunter Norton (Evans, Ga.) second in the statistical standings with two goals and three assists for seven points.
Clemson (3-7-2) is coming off a 2-3 loss to fourth-ranked Maryland Saturday and are 0-2-1 in its last three outings. Tommy Drake and Riley Sumpter lead the Tigers with three goals each while Drake adding two assists to his tally. Cody Mizell has a 1.11 goals against average in 12 starts.
