Small Named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Receiving the honor for the second time this season, junior middle hitter Parker Small has been named the Southern Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 18. The players of the week are voted on by the league office.
Small, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., hit .758 over the weekend to lead the Eagles to a 2-0 showing. The middle hitter posted 25 kills on no errors in 33 attempts for a 4.17 kills per set average. Against UNC Greensboro, Small reeled off 13 kills on 18 attempts with no errors for a .722 hitting percentage. She had an even stronger showing against Elon, hitting .800 in the match with 12 kills on 15 swings with no errors. She helped lead the Eagles to sweeps over the top two teams in the North Division and the first victory over UNCG since 2005. Small also received the award in week five of the season.
Small leads the team and league in hitting percentage on the season with a .431. Her 82 blocks also pace the team on the year.
The Eagles (15-7, 6-1) are winners of 12 of their past 13 matches, including the last three consecutive, and boast a perfect 9-0 record in Hanner Fieldhouse. Georgia Southern begins a three-match road trip on Thursday, Oct. 21. The Eagles take on Davidson at 6 p.m. before traveling to Western Carolina (Oct. 22) and Appalachian State (Oct. 24).
