Swim and Dive Team Opens 2010-11 Season 2-1

RICHMOND, Va. - The Georgia Southern Swimming and Diving team (2-1) concluded the first weekend of the 2010-11 season with a 130-159 loss to Richmond in a16-event dual meet at the Robins Center Natatorium. Georgia Southern finished its first road trip with a 2-1 record with wins over Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) foes Campbell and North Carolina A&T Friday night at the Campbell double-duals meet.
Georgia Southern had 23 'Top 3' finishes including first-place finishes in the 100 Fly, 400 Individual Medley and the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
Sara Meisenhelder (Carmel, Ind.) finished first on the 1-meter dive with a score of 225.60 while teammates Amanda Macchio (Redding, Conn.) and Cameron Robertson (Alpharetta, Ga.) finished second (150.90) and third (136.95), respectively. Meisenhelder and Macchio traded finishes on the 3-meter board with Macchio winning the event with a score of 214.91 and Meisenhelder coming in second place with a score of 206.85. Sophomore Alden Lynch (Jacksonville, Fla.) rounded out the "Top 3" finishes for the Eagles with a score of 178.42.
Courtney Harrison (Greenville, S.C.) led the way for the Eagles in the 400 Individual Medley with a first-place time of 4:45.25. Lindsay Mullican (Lancaster, Pa.) and Emily Fell (Brunswick, Ga.) took second- and third-place honors in the race.
Two Eagles finished two-10ths of a second from each other in the 100 Fly to take first and second. Rachel Stockwell (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished in first with a time of 1:03.12 while Mullican swam to a second-place finish with a time of 1:03.34. Meredith Fehr (Matthews, N.C.) finished in third with a time of 1:05.12.
In the freestyle events, the Eagles recorded five top-three individual finishes. Ali Campbell (Ft. McMurray, Alberta, Canada) took third-place in the 50 Free with a time of 25.44 and the senior recorded second-place finishes in the 500 (5:13.73) and 1000 Free (10:36.52) events. Bevillard (54.98) and White (55.26) finished third and fourth in the 100 Free with Fell sixth. White and Crider finished fifth and sixth. Stephens and Johnson finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 500 Free, and Mullican placed fifth in the 1000 Free. In the 200 Free, Bevillard (1:59.53), Stephens (2:01.36) and Fell (2:05.43) finished in order, fourth, fifth and sixth.
In the relays, Georgia Southern took the top two places in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The Eagle A team of Devan White (Kennesaw, Ga.), Caroline Bevillard (Bishop, Ga.), Laurie Stephens (Atlanta, Ga.) and Campbell took first-place with a time of 1:40.50. The B team of Katie Crider (Bloomington, Ind.), Kristen Haudenschild (Woodbridge, Va.), Tess Antesberger (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Pirie Humphries (Athens, Ga.) finished second with a time of 1:45.54.
Georgia Southern's team finished third and fourth in the 200 Medley Relay. The A team, comprised of Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.), Antesberger, Haudenschild and Bevillard took third-place (1:51.71) while the B team of Meg Beasley (Knoxville, Tenn.), Harrison, Stockwell and White finished fourth (1:55.77).
In the 200 Fly, Humphries led Georgia Southern with a fourth-place time of 2:14.44 with Stockwell and Fehr behind her in fifth and sixth place, respectively. Goodman's time of 2:10.98 in the 200 Back resulted in a second-place finish. Humphries and Beasley followed with fifth and sixth-place finishes. Harrison swam to a second-place finish in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:28.41. Ostrom and Haundenschild rounded out the fourth and fifth-place spots.
The Eagles play host to CCSA opponents College of Charleston and Savannah College of Art and Design Saturday, October 23rd, at the Recreation Activity Center on the Georgia Southern campus for their only home meet of the fall. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
