Women's Soccer Continues Conference Play

STATESBORO, Ga. – In a change from the original schedule, the Georgia Southern Women’s Soccer team welcomes The Citadel on Thursday, October 14 at 4 p.m. to Eagle Field. The Eagles then travel to College of Charleston Sunday for a 1 p.m. matchup. The first 50 fans in attendance at Thursday’s home match will receive a slice of pizza courtesy of Domino’s Pizza and Verizon and the University Store premiums will be part of the in-game promotions.

Georgia Southern enters Thursday’s contest with a 5-8-0 overall mark and 2-4 league ledger.
Sara Oland (Evans, Ga.) leads the offense with seven of the 15 goals scored and 26 shots. Katie Merson (Albuquerque, N.M.) defends the goal and has 43 saves on the year.

The Citadel kicks off the first of the final five matches of the regular season on Thursday. The Bulldogs enter the match with an 8-5-1 overall record while holding a 4-2 SoCon record. Leading the offensive attack, Mariana Garcia owns six goals on the season, 23 shots on goal and 13 points. 

The Bulldogs and Eagles will meet for the 10th time on the pitch Thursday with Georgia Southern owning a 7-2 all-time series advantage. However, The Citadel has taken the past two matchups, both by 2-1 decisions.

College of Charleston travels to Davidson Thursday before playing host to the Eagles on Sunday.  The Cougars are coming off a 2-1 loss at UNC Greensboro which moved them to 6-8-0 on the year and 3-3 in the SoCon. Sarah Schaidle leads the team with six goals, followed by Maryam Buazza and Sloane Levin, each with five. The primary goalkeeper, Katie Tate has accumulated over 920 minutes of play and 39 saves.

Sunday’s contest will mark the 18th meeting between the conference programs. Georgia Southern narrowly leads in the all-time series, 9-8.
